This is a short addendum to the previous lesson on intervals. On the guitar there are often multiple ways to play the same note. With the Major 3rd and Minor 3rd intervals there are two patterns that I’d like you to be familiar with.
In the last lesson we learned these shapes for the minor and major 3rd:
Let’s first practice an alternate fingering for the minor 3rd. In the diagram below notice that the “C” note can be played on either the 8th fret of the E string OR the 3rd fret of the A string.
Next lets take a look at the Major 3rd fingering options. In the diagram below notice the C# can be played on either the 9th fret of the E string or the 4th fret of the A string.
There are multiple ways to play any interval but these two are common enough with both fingerings that I thought this addendum was in order.
Let’s now take our knowledge about intervals and apply it to scales, arpeggios and chords!
