Alright! So you’ve got a guitar that’s in tune, you have a general understanding of its construction, and you’ve memorized the string names (lesson 1). You’ve also gotten a handle on your major chords (lesson 2)
Today let’s work on mastering your open minor chords. The good news is there are only 3!
As you play through the songs in this lesson don’t stress too much about getting the exact strumming pattern (we’ll talk strumming in another lesson) but try to stay with the beat of the song and make the transitions. If needed, slow the video down or stop the video and practice your transitions.
Let’s start with Dm and Em by learning the song 505 by the Artic Monkeys. The whole song can be played with those two chords!
Start by taking a close look at the chord charts below. Place fingers accordingly
(1=index; 2=middle, 3=ring, 4= pinky).
Be sure to mute or avoid the low E string and A string on the D minor chord.

Next up we have the song Sing by Ed Sheeran which will we will use to practice Am and Dm
Once again, take a close look at the chord chart, paying attention to the strings you do not play. Practice a few transitions between these two and join me at the video below to get plenty of practice.
